More Than I Needed to Know

"Kiss Me."

At the breakfast table, Saavik seemed quite intent on receiving a kiss from Peter.

"No--way."

Peter seemed equally intent on waiting before doing so.

"Peter, kiss your wife."

Nyota Uhura couldn't understand what little game they were playing.

"Peter, kiss your sister."

Jim teased them both, reminding them of their siblinghood-by-adoption.

"No, sir---and, no, sir."

Peter remained quite adamant in his desire.

"Kiss Me."

After Saavik finished her muffins and juice, though, she finally got her kiss, long and deep.

"Why will you kiss her now, and not before?"

"Peter, that just doesn't make any sense."

Jim and Nyota, finishing a plate or two of gooey-yolked poached eggs, puzzled at this sudden turn.

"I had to wait for her to eat something and then wash it down, before I even thought about kissing her."

Peter shrugged, and Jim queried through a mouthful.

"Why wait til then?"

Saavik smiled and spoke at the exact point as the senior officers both were in the middle of eating.

"Because--he knows quite well where my mouth has been, this night just past."

After the two had left, Nyota and Jim found their appetites had mysteriously vanished.
