FROM THE PERSONAL JOURNAL OF PETER KIRKI found a hidden stairwell within Sarek's home. I never knew it had it an upstairs. The stairwell is tight, and steep, and the steps feel rickety.
Something is wrong. I'm calling to Saavik, but I can't feel her. Also, why am I not floating or teleporting up? The stairwell is long, but not that long. So why am I wholly winded as I reach its summit? I've flown through stars, and shrugged off blasts from planetary cannons. And that's without achieving that golden form I use.
Yet I feel very mortal as I reach the tiny crawlspace-type area at the stairwell's top. I lie down there, and I go to sleep. As I close my eyes, I see another tight, steep stairwell leading in the other direction. When I wake, it is very dark, and I know that I am surrounded on either side by two stairwells, and on either of them a single misstep means instant death. The darkness does not pass. Those I hold dear are nowhere in evidence, and may not rescue me.
Eventually I must move, or both stairwells will collapse forever, leaving me trapped.
I wake upon crying out. My wife holds me.
