McCoy sat his Captain down."Jim--remember those live turkeys that Charlie Evans made for us, five months ago?"
Kirk smiled.
"I do indeed. They were the only non-harmful byproduct of that young man's destructive stay."
McCoy's face lost all expression.
"Doctor--what is it? Bones?"
"Jim--I did a DNA scan of those birds' remains. My God, Jim—they weren't turkeys! Charlie Evans must have transformed the crew of The Antares! JIM, THOSE TURKEYS WERE PEOPLE!! THEY WERE PEOPLE, I TELL YOU!!!"
Kirk felt immediately ill, and ran for the nearby refresher. His nausea turned to anger, as the Doctor's raucous laughter filled the air. He turned around.
"Oh, Jim. Normally, I can't stand your brother's sense of humor. But when he suggested I do this last Christmas- --Hehehhheeheee!!!!"
Jim smiled, and extended his hand, showing it was free of buzzers and the like.
"You got me, Bones. You and Sam both. Let's shake."

APRIL 1ST, 2286
Doctor McCoy, talking with the children, absently rubbed his hand, as though from a painful memory.
"And that, kids, is why we don't shout 'Look--Ghidorah!!' on April Fools' Day."
He rubbed his hand, which the Captain resqueezed every year on this day, with force equal to the first time.
"After all--owww---someone could get hurt---like you. Aaagggh, Jim!"
Later, McCoy found out that the Captain had changed the calendar by one day.
