A Remix differs from a simple crossover in that an actual episode of Star Trek must be used as its base. The author's job is to figure out how to fit in the non-ST characters into the eps we all know like the back of our hands. There should be a connection between the shows, or the eps' situations must somehow call for it. While I am the creator of this type of XO, I do not consider it my property in any sense and welcome anyone who wishes to try it.

A Remix as I define it differs from a simple crossover in that it uses an actual ST broadcast episode or movie as its basis, sometimes using a connection between the episode's plot, actors, or setting to see what crossover is called for.

'The Way To Eden' featured anti-establishment space hippies. 'Eden The Hard Way' therefore featured the very embodiment of the establishment, Sgt. Joe Friday of Dragnet. The last 1st season ep 'Operation:Annihilate' became 'Operation : Amazing', and Jim Kirk's orphaned nephew became Peter Parker.

Since Q boxed with Sisko in 'Q-Less', 'Yo, Emissary' had the arrogant entity taken out by Rocky Balboa. Since Tuvok turned investigator in the Voy ep, 'Random Thoughts', 'Just One More Random Thought' had the planetary investigator countered by the efforts of Detective Colombo. Kate Mulgrew had of course, played 'Mrs. Colombo'. In 'Plato's Wild Stepchildren', the kind and gentle Alexander turned out to be Michael Dunn's other alter ego, the evil Doctor Loveless of 'Wild, Wild West'. Gary Seven of 'Assignment Earth' became 007 in 'Double Assignment Earth', and who better to deal with the arrogant Apollo of 'Who Mourns For Adonis?'  than the Kevin Sorbo version of Hercules.

Some remixes though, simply take the ST ep situation and substitute the characters from another show, like 'Where Every Fury Knows Your Name', in which Diane Chambers returns in vengeance to 'Cheers', making no more sense than Evil Kes did in 'Fury' on Voyager.  Some are more serious in nature, like the MASH story 'Transfer, Transfer', a version of 'Mirror, Mirror'. Or to use a non-ST example, the classic Highlander ep, 'Comes A Horseman', remade with the vampires of 'Forever Knight', and Lacroix as Methos.
